Psalm 119:125 says, “I am your servant; give me understanding that I may know your testimonies.” Five times in this psalm does the writer ask for understanding (v. 34, 73, 144, 169). Here he asks for understanding to know God’s testimonies or ways. But asking for understanding should not be limited to knowing God better, but everything else such as knowing people involved in our lives, our circumstances, etc. How many times have we just reacted to something/someone without asking God for understanding first about what just happened? Verse 144 says, “Give me understanding and I shall live.” God’s understanding will give us his wisdom so we can live life the way it is supposed to be lived.
