Devotional Observation – June 30, 2017

John 1:12-13 says, “But as many as received him [Christ], to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” Here is the gospel in a nutshell: receiving Christ is believing in his name, which means God who saves. It is not by blood (family line or ancestry), the will of the flesh (human desire) or the will of man (human choice). Once a person believes, God wills (or chooses) believers to be saved based on Christ’s work on the cross (Romans 3:24). “The right to become children of God means we have the authority to be God’s kids. Let’s live today with that authority but demonstrated by grateful humility.
