Psalm 128:5-6 say, “The LORD bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life. Yes, may you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!” These verses give us the third way to recognize God’s blessing on those who fear him (v. 1). By application, God says his blessing is evident on having peace in your country’s capital (and thus throughout the country) and living long enough to see your grandchildren. You may think this is not a big deal, that most people around the world live long enough to see their grandkids, but that was not automatic for Israel, being surrounded by enemies then and now. Invasions were frequent in the time of the Judges. Wars were routine in King David’s day as in the centuries of the Israel/Judah division. The Assyrian and Babylonian Captivities speak for themselves. While not all those who fear the Lord have kids/grandkids, we are so grateful for this blessing and pray you will receive it too.
