Psalm 128:3-4 says, “Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, you children like olive plants all around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.” This is the second way God says he will bless the man who fears the Lord: having lots of kids. I came across this psalm in Bible college and thought it might be pretty cool to have a large family (by modern American standards). God blessed us with 7 of you! If you ask most American adults if they would like more money or more children, the vast majority will choose the money. In Haiti the average number of kids in a family is near 10. Obviously not everyone is married or has kids, but the idea is that God blesses us in the context of family, with the wife/mother as the heart of the home. We lose this blessing at home when we become distant from the Lord.
