John 18:8-9 says, “Jesus answered, ‘I have told you that I am. Therefore, if you seek me, let these go their way,’ that the saying might be fulfilled which he spoke, ‘Of those whom you gave me I have lost none.'” Jesus reiterated his deity (“I am”) to Judas and the soldiers. Since they said they wanted only him, he told them to let his disciples go. Picking themselves up off the ground, they were in no position to argue with him. They were fortunate not to be “consume[d] by the breath of his mouth” like he will do to “the lawless one” (2 Thessalonians 2:8). Their release illustrated Jesus losing no one as he promised (John 6:39,40,44; 10:28; 17:12). It gave assurance of Jesus’ power to keep them permanently related to God as his children. Let’s be his obedient kids today rejoicing in his faithfulness and bringing him glory.
