Devotional Observation – January 23, 2017

John 18:6-7 says, “Now when he said to them, ‘I am,’ they drew back and fell to the ground. Then he asked them again, ‘Whom are you seeking?’ And they said, ‘Jesus of Nazareth.’ Jesus answered, ‘I have told you that I am.'” Confronting Judas and the armed temple soldiers in Gethsemane, Jesus asked them who they wanted. Naturally they wanted him to arrest, so he identified himself as the great “I am” (v. 5). At this they fell backwards to the ground. Do you see the power when God simply speaks? So he asks them again, clearly wanting to cement the point of who’s really in charge. Can you see the guards covering their heads and faces in Round 2?! Fact: God’s Word is the most powerful force…period! It made all of creation (Genesis 1). Let’s believe it, live it and act on it so outsiders see it too.
