Devotional Observation – December 31, 2016

John 17:1 says, Jesus spoke these words, lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said: ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you.'” At this moment Jesus concluded his instructions to the disciples on the Mount of Olives and began praying just before Judas’ betrayal. Chapter 17 has information found nowhere else in Scripture. He says to his Father, “The hour has come.” Everything led up to this. It was the time that all eternity hung on: his crucifixion. “Glorify/glory/glorified” comprise a major theme in John. Jesus prays to be glorified by death, which in turn will glorify his Father by showing how far they achieved together our salvation. To veiled eyes it looked like just another death, but not so. God works below the surface. Do our eyes see and recognize his work? Is our goal each day to glorify the Father like Jesus?
