John 10:7 & 9 says, “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Most assuredly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep…I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.'” After beginning his metaphor about the sheep and the shepherd (v. 2), Jesus says he is “the door” of the sheep twice. Sheepfolds were 4-sided stone structures for keeping sheep overnight. Having no door or gate, the shepherd would lie across the door opening where a threshold would be to guard and protect the sheep. Not only does Jesus do this, he also lets them “in and out and find pasture,” where all their needs were fulfilled. Protection and provision is the picture of salvation for “anyone” who “enters” by him. Let’s thank him for his great salvation today.
