Devotional Observation – September 19, 2016

John 10:10 says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Jesus was talking about the sheep and the shepherd and mentions again (v. 1) a thief. Here he expands on his purpose. He wants to “steal” our freedom, “destroy” our possessions and “kill” us. Clearly this is the work of our chief adversary, the devil. We can lose battles against him simply by not being aware of his strategies, or being un- or under-prepared. It’s clear today the world is a war zone. Let’s hold the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16) up high to quench every fiery dart thrown at us each and every day. If we do, we’ll overcome him and experience “life more abundantly” through our Good Shepherd’s victory.
