Devotional Observation – September 17, 2016

John 10:3-4 says, “To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” Jesus continued his Good Shepherd analogy among angry Pharisees (ch. 9). The doorkeeper of the sheep pen only opens the door for the shepherd who calls the sheep “by name.” He knows and loves us personally and intimately, not only corporately. His sheep follow him because the sheep “know his voice.” How well do we experience his love and know that voice when he speaks to us? As much as he wants, or for as much as we have time? Let’s not miss his tender care for us as minutes turn into weeks and months and years.
