John 10:1-2 says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.” In this illustration Jesus began his story about the sheep and the shepherd. The latter would go through the door, while the former climb the walls. The former comprise two kinds of bad guys. A thief is simply a small-time thief and runs off quickly with what he can steal. The robber is a booty seeker who will do whatever it takes, including violence, to get what he wants. Both types want to steal from others to satisfy their greed. In contrast Jesus came to give…eternal life, for starters. Let’s make sure we’re giving to others, not taking.
