Devotional Observation – September 15, 2016

Psalm 108:13 says, “Through God we will do valiantly, for it is he who shall tread down our enemies.” We might remember this verse from the Jewish tune we sing it to from time to time. “Valiantly” has the idea of military strength and power. “Treading down” means trampling. Our biggest enemies are worldly: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). They are also internal responses. God’s Spirit counters by moving us toward holiness, trampling down lesser impulses.
