John 8:44 says, “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.” In this statement Jesus reveals the truth about the Jews: they were spiritual descendants of Satan! His heart was their heart. His actions (lying/deceiving/murdering) were their actions. According to Jesus, Satan’s two offspring were lies and Jews! Ouch! But this is also true of everyone who rejects him. It boils down to whom we belong. Sometimes God’s people shade the truth and jade their hearts when doing so. This is why truth telling is so important. Let’s be truthful in all our ways!
