John 8:34 and 36 says, “Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin…Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.'” Jesus makes a clear observation of human behavior: when we choose to do something wrong, we show our slavery to what’s wrong. We’re stuck! We’re locked in; we can’t get out. This explains what’s wrong on our planet: it’s all of us…in slavery! But Jesus continued. He says he’s the liberator, our liberator! Only he can take us out of Adam’s family and put us in his. Only he can touch us deep inside where the evil resides and give us the power to keep it in subjection. Only he can transform us from the inside out by the power of the Spirit. Who else can make such a change? Thank him today by yielding to him.
