Devotional Observation – August 20, 2016

John 7:2-5 says, “Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. His brothers therefore said to him, ‘Depart from here and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see the works that you are doing. For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.’ For even his brothers did not believe in him.” This is pretty classic stuff: Jesus’ unsaved family members counseling him on how to conduct his ministry of miracles and teaching. Maybe they thought this was a political campaign: “Don’t do things in secret. Show yourself to the world!” Outsiders always have ‘better’ ideas and ways of how Christians should live their lives, run their families and package their ministries. Jesus rejected their advice and motives and continually sought the Father’s will. Should we do anything less? Let’s follow his example today.
