John 6:12-13 says, “So when they were filled, he said to his disciples, ‘Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.’ Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.” Jesus had just multiplied the boy’s lunch of 5 loaves and 2 fish to feed a crowd of ~15,000. Leftovers! 12 baskets full! One for each disciple. What an object lesson for them, which I’m sure lasted in their memories much longer than in their stomachs. Each one had a tasty take-home lesson, physically and spiritually, on a routine day. Do we have eyes to what God’s doing in our routine days? May God give us vision to see beyond our physical sight.
