Devotional Observation – August 8, 2016

John 6:15 says, “Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he departed again to the mountain by himself alone.” After Jesus fed the 5,000 men he knew their intentions: ‘Let’s make this guy king! Free food, free health care [healings], freedom from Rome,’ etc. It couldn’t get any better than that, right? But man’s idea is not God’s. He had something far better than that, but they didn’t want it. Jesus took the lower, humble road. One big thing I learned from theologian/philosopher Francis Schaeffer was to always take the low(er) road until God or circumstances compel you to take the high(er) road. I have sought to do this, and God graciously gave me a high(er) road. May we all learn his lessons on the low(er) road first. They’re easier to learn there.
