John 3:13 says, “No one has ascended to heaven but he who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.” Continuing his discussion with Nicodemus, Jesus demonstrates his uniqueness with this statement:“No one has ascended to heaven.” Think about that for a minute. No individual has made it up to heaven on his/her own terms or way. No one! Even all those people who claim to have gone to heaven and returned. Wrong! Jesus distinguishes himself by saying one must come down from heaven first and then return…like he did. This eliminates everyone from the mix. It forces us to consider him alone as our authority. Let’s live like he is our authority today.
