John 1:46 says, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” The future disciple Nathanael said this Philip who told him they found the Messiah in Nazareth. Jesus grew up there. Nazareth was a small village that had a bad reputation, explaining Nathanael’s blunt response. Sometimes we too are blunt, even rude, saying similar kinds of things. Finish this sentence: “Nothing good comes out of _________.” Many Christians would say “Hollywood,” the film capital of the world. That’s fair but not always true. Either way, Jesus complimented Nathanael calling him one that had “no deceit” (v. 47). We should demonstrate the same grace Jesus has for us to others that speak similarly.
