Psalm 149:4 says, “For the LORD takes pleasure in his people, he will beautify the humble with salvation.” Have you ever thought about the first half of this verse, that he takes pleasure in us? In the first place we must show humility to admit we can’t save ourselves and trust Christ for salvation. But secondly, as we continue to demonstrate humility (or meekness), God continues to sanctify us, making us beautiful, i.e., like Jesus, because Jesus himself was meek (Matthew 11:29). This is highly valued character trait in God’s eyes. As much as we would like, this is something only he can do for us. So be beautiful in the Lord today.
