Psalm 136:1b says, “His mercy endures forever.” In 26 verses King David repeats this statement 26 times. Like Psalm 135, it follows the trail of his wonders (v. 4) in history from creation (5-9) and Israel’s redemption from Egypt and wilderness wanderings (10-20) to giving the promised land to Israel (21-22) and his general care for mankind (22-25). God’s actions in time and space resulting in temporal benefits show an everlasting mercy, displaying this characteristic of God. So are his dealings in our lives since God doesn’t change (Malachi 3:6). Take time today to thank him for his mercy in our lives.
