Devotional Observation – May 31, 2017

Psalm 135:6a says, “Whatever the LORD pleases he does, in heaven and in earth…” This is a statement about the sovereignty and goodness of the Lord. They both go together. This psalm points to them in God’s praiseworthiness (vs. 1-3), in choosing Israel (v. 4), in his greatness (v. 5), in creation (vs. 6b-7), in his redemption of Israel out of Egypt and wilderness wanderings (vs. 8-12), in his enduring great name (v. 13), in his righteous judgments (v. 14), and in his superiority over all the false gods of the nations (vs. 15-18). Human history verifies this truth that our God is unlike any other! Our God invaded our world and showed up in history. No other god has done that. Don’t forget this fact when speaking to outsiders.
