Psalm 121:1-2 says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills–from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD who made heaven and earth.” This psalm is an “ascent” song the Jews sang as they walked up the mountain to Jerusalem. As they got closer they could see the Temple Mount. The word “hills” is more frequently translated “mountains.” People in tribes around Israel believed in local deities that lived on a hill/mountain. While Jews knew that God showed his presence in the Temple, he was still the LORD who made heaven and earth. Not only that, “help” is the same word used to describe Eve in Genesis 2. God’s help shows up at our side in beautiful and powerful ways! Worth singing about.
