Daniel 1:9-10 says, “Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs. And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, ‘I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who are your age? Then you would endanger my head before the king.’” Most likely Daniel came from a royal family (v. 3). He was “good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand” (v. 4). Beyond this God granted him his special favor that was evident to the eunuchs’ chief. He was concerned he would “endanger [his] head” (beheading) if their faces looked worse by their refusing the king’s food. God’s favor is a huge blessing for us among outsiders. Let’s pray for this favor throughout our lives as part of our witness.
