John 21:13-14 says, “Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. This is now the third time Jesus showed himself to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.” On the shore of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus served breakfast to seven disciples after they fished all night. It was his third post-resurrection appearance in John’s gospel. This was his first recorded meal with them since the Passover dinner where he expanded it to include his death as the Lamb of God (1:29, 36). His next meal will be his Marriage Supper (Revelation 19:7, 9) when all the redeemed in his Body join him in the ultimate communion meal as one in each other. So this lakeside bread-and-fish meal occurs in a redemptive flow where spiritual world meets and changes the physical world. Let’s do our part to keep this change going.
