John 21:1-2 says, “After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way he showed himself: Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together.” John essentially concluded his gospel in chapter 20 with the risen Jesus appearing to all 11 disciples. Chapter 21 begins the wrap-up. “These things” is all of what Jesus did including his resurrection. But he wasn’t done. Jesus will “show,” or reveal himself in his new body to 7 of them “at the Sea of Tiberias” (Galilee). “This way” of revealing himself follows in this chapter. John will tie up loose ends before Jesus ascends to heaven. He also treats us similarly, not by physically revealing himself but by leading, guiding, protecting and speaking to us. Let’s walk in communion with him today.
