Devotional Observation – March 6, 2017

John 20:8-9 says, “Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed. For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.” At the tomb John, “the other disciple” and writer of this gospel, went inside after Peter (v. 6). John saw the evidence of the grave cloths and folded handkerchief and “believed” immediately. Then he writes, “As yet they did not know the Scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.” Think about that: after three years with Jesus his older colleagues (he was the youngest) still didn’t know the Scripture. If they had, they would have believed. But John knew. Jesus told the Sadducees, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God” (Matthew 22:29). Let’s make the most of every opportunity to expose young people to Scripture.
