Devotional Observation – February 13, 2017

John 19:10-11 says, “Then Pilate said to him, ‘Are you not speaking to me? Do you not know that I have power to crucify you, and power to release you?’ Jesus answered, ‘You could have no power at all against me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered me to you has the greater sin.'” Now “more afraid” after the Jews told him Jesus claimed to be God’s Son (v. 7-8), Pilate panics. He threatens “to crucify” Jesus but also says he can “release” him. Jesus said such authority came from heaven “above” and adds that the “one who delivered [him]” (Judas or Caiaphas) “has the greater sin.” Pilate would be guilty condemning a man he declared twice had “no fault in him.” Everything we have is also “from above.” Let’s use it all as Jesus would to be Jesus to outsiders around us today.
