Devotional Observation – February 7, 2017

Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” It is from this verse that the song “This is the day” came from. This catchy little tune is frequently sung in the morning of a new day, as if that’s what the song is about. Not so. The 2 verses before v. 24 speak about the chief cornerstone being rejected by the builders, a picture the New Testament confirms as Christ. “This was the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes,” says verse 23. “This is the day the LORD has made…” So when we sing this song, remember it’s about the day Jesus was rejected by the Jews but accepted by the Father as our Chief Cornerstone, suitable to pay for our sins and erect a new building, the Body of Christ.
