Devotional Observation – January 30, 2017

John 18:25-27 says, “Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Therefore they said to him, ‘You are not also one of his disciples, are you?’ He denied it and said, ‘I am not!’ One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, ‘Did I not see you in the garden with him?’ Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.” Warming himself with the arresters in Annas’ courtyard where Jesus was detained, they recognize him from Gethsemane. After all, it was Peter who cut off Malchus’ ear (v. 12). He was the only one who reacted violently. Without that violence the arresters might not have recognized him. Peter couldn’t live up to his own bravado. Jesus knew this all along. What does Jesus know about our future? Everything! Let’s thank him for his mercy, grace, compassion and never forsaking us.
