John 18:16-17 says, “But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought Peter in. When the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, ‘You are not also one of this Man’s disciples, are you?’ He said, ‘I am not.'” Now at the house of Annas, Jesus is no doubt still bound, awaiting an illegal night trial. “The other disciple known to the high priest” who spoke to the girl attending the door into the courtyard area, is John. He used his influence to admit Peter. Asking Peter if he is a disciple “also” means others knew John was. As Jesus predicted (13:38), Peter denies being his disciple. Jesus knows what we’ll do yet lets things like this happen. Let’s do better honoring Jesus today with our obedience.
