Devotional Observation – December 17, 2016

John 16:2-4a says “They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor me. But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.” Jesus continued preparing his disciples for what was coming after his arrest, now within minutes. Outsiders who hate Jesus and the Father (15:25) “will put [the disciples] out of the synagogues.” Paul did, thinking “he offers God service.” Muslims and Hindus do today. Some Buddhists do as well. This should not surprise us because Jesus told them that we “may remember that I told you.” Many Christians have enjoyed easier times spiritually, but times change. Let’s remember they don’t know God and be ready as his witnesses.
