Devotional Observation – December 12, 2016

John 15:20-21 says, “Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for my name’s sake, because they do not know him who sent me.” In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus reminds his disciples what he said at the Last Passover: “A servant is not greater than his master.” On the edge of ultimate persecution Jesus said whatever outsiders do to him they’ll do to them. Persecute Jesus? They’ll persecute them. Keep his word (becoming followers)? They’ll follow them. He’s saying ‘like attracts like.’ Increasingly today believers are losing their lives for Jesus. We don’t know when or how soon we might too. But the reward for doing so is eternal. Let’s walk confidently in the faith today.
