Devotional Observation – December 10, 2016

John 15:16 says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.” As Jesus spoke to the disciples the night before he was betrayed, he said they didn’t choose him but he chose them from the crowds who followed him. They believed and followed, but he chose. Moreover, he “appointed” (put or placed) them to “bear fruit” that “should remain” and have their prayers answered in their positions as his 12 closest associates. “Remain” means abide, the same abiding relationship branches are to have in the vine. God has chosen us (Ephesians 1:4) and put us in positions to bear fruit that abides. How close are we to him? Let’s keep this priority number one and bear fruit for his glory today.
