Devotional Observation – November 7, 2016

John 13:15-17 says, “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” Jesus said this after washing his disciples’ feet. He illustrated submission and obedience to “he who sent him.” The “servant (Christ) is not greater than his master (the Father).” Thus, we should not think we’re greater than Jesus. We likewise should be willing to demonstrate submission and obedience all the more since Jesus and the Father are equal (Philippians 2:6) and we’re certainly not on their plane! Naturally, knowing and doing are two different levels of understanding. Let’s be “blessed” knowing by experience (“do”) and not just in theory.
