John 13:3-4 says, ” Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside his garments, took a towel and girded himself.” The Passover feast had begun in the guest room upstairs for Jesus and his disciples. With no servant to wash their feet, Jesus interrupted the meal to do so. This would shock the disciples, but it would also portray a greater coming shock: his arrest, trial, beating, death and burial. Jesus endured it all because “he had come from God and was going to God.” He knew his path. We know our lives came from God. We also know we’re on our way to heaven. Can we take the servant’s role like Jesus did? If not, we need to make sure he’s the bookends of our lives.
