John 12:16 says, “ His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him and that they had done these things to him.” John wrote this decades after the events they describe. “These things” refers to everything surrounding and including Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem. They didn’t get it “at first.” But after Jesus was glorified (i.e., his resurrection) “they remembered” and understood. Isn’t that the way it is with us? When we face something new, we hear it but don’t fully understand. We hear it again, ask questions and start to see the larger picture but still don’t quite get it. We hear it again and now it begins to make some sense. That’s the way growth is. So don’t beat yourself up thinking you’re a slow learner. The disciples had 3 years with him that you didn’t!
