John 11:3-4 says, “ Therefore the sisters sent to him, saying, ‘Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.’ When Jesus heard that, he said, ‘This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.'” Mary and Martha and brother Lazarus were good friends of Jesus. Lazaras was sick so the sisters sent a message notifying Jesus. He stayed an additional 2 days before arriving (v. 6), saying it was for his glory, not Lazarus’ death. He died anyway. Hmm… Like Lazarus, we’re sick too if “sick” equals sin. Who among us is not morally sick? Mentally sick? Emotionally sick? Behaviorally sick? And like Lazarus, Jesus loves us too, enough to die for our “sickness” to make us well. And in that Jesus is glorified. Let’s remember to keep our Doctor in mind and share him with others who are sick.
