Devotional Observation – August 27, 2016

John 7:50-52 says, “Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, ‘Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?’ They answered and said to him, ‘Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.'” Verse 1 of this chapter begins with Jewish leaders wanting to kill Jesus. Their animosity increases until the temple guards can’t arrest him saying “No man ever spoke like this Man!” (v. 46). So Nicodemus asks about the wisdom of making groundless arrests. They respond saying that no prophet comes up out of Galilee. True, but Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and the Scripture did predict that. Do we sometimes miss what God has for us for the same reason — we don’t know Scripture well enough? Let’s stay in the Book to see him and his will more clearly.
