John 7:37-38 says, “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Jesus said this on day 7 of the Feast of Tabernacles. On that day the high priest filled a golden pitcher with water from the pool of Siloam. A procession followed him back to and then circled the alter at the Temple as they sung praises to God and offered the water as a sacrifice. Jesus’ statement indicates he was the fulfillment of this promise of Scripture (Isa. 12:3, Ezek. 47:8, Zech. 13:1). When one’s heart is full it overflows; it shows. That’s what salvation does if we understand and embrace Jesus correctly. Sure, problems continue, but there’s no mistaking an overflowing heart. Let’s cultivate that heart routinely.
