John 7:18-19 says, “He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?” When challenged about his authority, Jesus constantly explained and defended his claim because evil people who didn’t keep the law — the Jews in his day — not only didn’t believe him, they also regularly attacked him. False messiahs before and after him spoke from themselves. Jesus represented the Father and did so perfectly. Many outsiders today attack his authority wanting to “kill” him in people’s minds. That is why living for him consistently is the best first way to counter their attacks. For them, seeing Christ in us is our first step to chip away at their worldview and blunt their denial. How do outsiders see us today?
