John 6:44-45 says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.” Some Christians seem to want to mystify the way God “draws” people to himself. Jesus here applies Isaiah 54:13 to how God does it. Isaiah describes the blessings of God’s kingdom that include children being taught by God. Therefore the drawing process includes those who hear and learn from God. This requires verbal communication from believers (Romans 10:14) and pre-believers willing to listen. That’s why Bible study groups are so important. Some hear; a few are drawn. The more that hear, more are drawn. Let’s draw in more like God: “with lovingkindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31:3).
