John 5:22-23 says, “For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.” The second thing this has to do with honor. Both Roman and Jewish cultures focused on avoiding/preventing shame and seeking/gaining honor. The Father gave the responsibilities of judgment to the Son so that we who honor the Father would likewise honor the Son. Because we are basically selfish thanks to Adam, we don’t automatically honor others. Because God honors us fully in salvation, we should freely honor him back and each other, and even those not worthy of it. When we do, it catches people’s attention who want to know why. A good way to start conversations!
