John 4:34 says, “Jesus said to them, ‘My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work.'” Who doesn’t like to eat? Well, maybe purgers. But in speaking with his disciples, Jesus implied he enjoyed doing the Father’s will as much as, if not more than, eating. It was simply more satisfying to him. It was his staple. For Jesus the spiritual always outranked and outshined the physical. Do we have that same perspective? What physical things are more important to us than spiritual things? If we want to become more like Jesus, we must constantly examine our values. How are we doing in the “finishing God’s work” department? Jesus got it done in his life. Will we?
