John 3:27 says, “John answered and said, ‘A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.'” John the Baptist said this in response to an argument among his disciples about Jesus baptizing more people than he was. John was a very mature spiritual man who knew himself, his role and his place in God’s plan. He knew that everything he had done in ministry was “given to him from heaven.” No arguments from him! He would have absolutely nothing were it not given to him from heaven. We similarly receive Christ whom God gave to us to become the children of God (1:12). From there he gives us everything else for service to him. Let’s walk today with John’s kind of maturity in service to our King.
