No. There are plenty of denominations in the Body of Christ. The Bible is silent about denominations. Jesus prayed that all his followers would be “one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you; that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that you sent me” (John 17:21). He mentions this oneness four times (vs. 11, 21-23). Notice the connection between oneness and the world believing in Jesus. Paul said in Ephesians that God is building “one new man” (2:15) and that it is to be “perfect” or mature (4:13), growing (4:15, 16) and knit together (v.16). Biblically speaking, spiritual unity breeds spiritual community and spiritual maturity (4:14). Many Christians today have greater loyalty to their church or their pastor/leader or their group or their organization. Such loyalty is admirable as long as their higher/greater/stronger loyalty is to Jesus and his Body, which recognizes all true Christian believers as family — the family of God (Ephesians 3:15). When we lift up Jesus and he becomes the center of our attention, he will draw the world to himself (John 12:32).
