John 20:17-18 says, “Jesus said to her, Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.”’ Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things to her.” Mary is the first to see the risen Christ because she lingered. After recognizing him, she clung tightly. There was no time for that. Jesus hadn’t ascended yet to finish his earthly task. The resurrection is the reason he calls us “brethren” here for the first time. His God is our God: we’re family now! He and all of us together. Mary obeys and tells the others, now her brothers in Christ. Let’s treat all believers as our organic spiritual family members everyday.
