John 6:34-36 says, “Then they said to him, ‘Lord, give us this bread always.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall never hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst. But I have said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe.'” Jesus continued talking to the crowd that he had miraculously fed telling them that a better “bread from heaven…gives life to the world” (v. 32). Asking for it “always” shows their complete misunderstanding, thinking that literal bread would come in never-ending fashion. Jesus corrects them by saying once you have him, they’ll never hunger or thirst, speaking of spiritual reality not physical analogy. Sadly they couldn’t get past the bread to get him. Many aspects of physical life mirror spiritual realities. Let’s not miss spiritual truths God teaches us in this life like those Jews did.
