Psalm 147:10-11 says, “He does not delight in the strength of the horse; he takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his mercy.” These two verses show the singular contrast between God and man in this psalm. The horse was the strongest animal in the ancient Middle East, often used in combat. A man’s legs contain the largest muscles that enable him to run, jump, etc. None of this impresses God. What draws his pleasure are those who fear him and hope in his mercy. This is the great equalizer. Even though we all are different in many ways, we all need to trust in the Lord, not our own strength or exploits.
