Psalm 119:50, 52 say, “This is my comfort in my affliction, for your word has given me life…I remembered your judgments of old, O LORD, and have comforted myself.” The writer of this psalm repeatedly mentions his “afflictions.” We are never told what or how serious they were. But he finds comfort in the fact that God’s “word has given [him] life.” For him, that is supreme. Supreme enough that he can comfort himself alone in God’s Word. This is the only time I can find this in the Scriptures and suggests a strong relationship with the Lord. He needs no other comforters. May God find that to be true of us too.
